Biography

Eduard Franz, originally named Eduard Franz Schmidt, was a prominent American actor born on October 31, 1902, and he passed away on February 10, 1987. Renowned for his versatility in theatre, film, and television, Franz gained fame for his compelling portrayal of King Ahab in the 1953 low-budget biblical film *Sins of Jezebel*. He further showcased his talent as Jethro in Cecil B. DeMille's epic *The Ten Commandments* (1956) and Jehoam in Henry Koster’s *The Story of Ruth* (1960).

Franz's theatrical career began to flourish by 1936 as he captivated audiences across the nation, establishing himself as a leading figure on Broadway for nearly three decades, featuring in notable productions like *First Stop to Heaven*, *Embezzled Heaven*, and *Conversation at Midnight*. He made his film debut in 1947 with a minor role in *Killer at Large*, quickly following with a significant part in *The Scar* the next year. His film repertoire expanded with appearances alongside John Wayne in *Wake of the Red Witch* (1948) and as Chief Broken Hand in *White Feather*.

In addition to his film work, Franz also portrayed intellectual characters, such as Dr. Stern in *The Thing from Another World* (1951) and Justice Louis Brandeis in *The Magnificent Yankee* (1950), a role he revisited in a 1965 TV adaptation. He made notable contributions to television, including a memorable role in the 1957 adaptation of A. J.
