Xavier Sotelo, a San Francisco native, was introduced to the world of acting at the tender age of eight during a location shoot for the iconic television series "Streets of San Francisco," featuring legends Michael Douglas and Karl Malden. This early experience ignited his passion for performing, leading him to hone his craft through extensive training across various cities, including California, New York, Toronto, and Ottawa, with notable mentorship from John Strasberg.
Throughout his extensive career in film and television, which is rooted in a solid theatrical background, Xavier has amassed an impressive portfolio, appearing in over 40 productions. His work encompasses independent films, Canadian public service announcements, and Movies of the Week for Hallmark and Lifetime Networks, where he has held both principal and supporting roles. Additionally, he has showcased his talents in high-profile feature films and major network episodic series.
A significant highlight of Xavier's career came when he made history as the first Latino male to take on the role of captain in one of television's most enduring science fiction franchises, "Star Trek." This groundbreaking achievement occurred when he portrayed Captain Diego Vela in the acclaimed series "Star Trek: Discovery" on CBS Paramount, marking a pivotal moment in representation within the genre.
