Biography

Jeff York (March 23, 1912 - October 11, 1995) was a prominent American actor recognized for his contributions to both film and television, initially entering the industry in the late 1930s under his birth name, Granville Owen Schofield. Occasionally credited as Jeff Yorke, he quickly became known for his striking presence and versatility.

York's early career featured notable roles, including Pat Ryan in the 1940 serial *Terry and the Pirates* and the lead in the film adaptation of *Li'l Abner.* However, he gained lasting fame for his portrayal of Bud Searcy in Disney's beloved classic *Old Yeller* as well as its 1963 sequel, *Savage Sam*, where he starred alongside Beverly Washburn, who played his daughter Lisbeth.

Throughout the 1950s, York showcased his talents in television, particularly with his memorable portrayal of Mike Fink in Disney's acclaimed *Davy Crockett* miniseries. He appeared in two episodes, “Davy Crockett’s Keelboat Race” and “Davy Crockett and the River Pirates,” where he shared the screen with Fess Parker. His character, known for his colorful personality, participated in a spirited boasting contest and a thrilling keelboat race, further solidifying his place in pop culture.

Throughout his career, York made significant contributions to various Disney productions, including *The Great Locomotive Chase,* *Westward Ho, the Wagons!*, and *Johnny Tremain*, leaving a lasting legacy in the entertainment industry.
