Don Haggerty
Biography
Don Haggerty, born on July 3, 1914, in Poughkeepsie, New York, was a notable American film actor whose career spanned the 1940s and 1950s. Prior to his entry into the film industry in 1947, Haggerty showcased his athletic prowess at Brown University and served in the United States military.
Often typecast as rugged lawmen or cowboys, Haggerty made his mark in several iconic films of the era, including "Sands of Iwo Jima" (1949), "The Asphalt Jungle" (1951), "Angels in the Outfield" (1951), and "The Narrow Margin." His dedication to his craft kept him active in the film industry until the early 1980s. Notably, during the 1955-1956 television season, he portrayed the infamous outlaw Sam Bass in an episode of Jim Davis's "Stories of the Century."
The following year, Haggerty took on the role of Sheriff Elder in the western crime drama "State Trooper," starring Rod Cameron. He also made appearances in three episodes of "26 Men," a series focused on the Arizona Rangers. In 1959, he guest-starred in Bruce Gordon's Cold War docudrama "Behind Closed Doors," and in 1960, he appeared in the NBC crime series "Dan Raven." His versatility continued as he portrayed Joe Wine in the 1961 episode "Alien Entry" of "The Blue Angels," and he also featured in "The Brothers Brannagan." Haggerty passed away on August 19, 1988, in Cocoa Beach, Florida, leaving behind a legacy of memorable performances.
