Ron Howard
Biography
Ronald William Howard, born on March 1, 1954, is a prominent American actor and filmmaker. He initially gained recognition as a child actor, making guest appearances on various television shows, including an episode of The Twilight Zone. Howard captured national attention for his role as young Opie Taylor, the son of Sheriff Andy Taylor, portrayed by Andy Griffith, in the beloved sitcom The Andy Griffith Show, which aired from 1960 to 1968. During this time, he also starred in the successful musical film The Music Man (1962). In his early career, he was credited as Ronny Howard for his film and television work from 1959 until 1973.
In 1973, Howard took on a significant role in the acclaimed coming-of-age film American Graffiti, which became one of the highest-grossing films of all time. The following year, he became a household name through his portrayal of Richie Cunningham in the popular sitcom Happy Days, a character he played from 1974 to 1984. Throughout this period, he also appeared in films such as the western The Shootist (1976) and the comedy Grand Theft Auto (1977), the latter marking his debut as a director.
In 1984, Howard shifted his focus to directing, producing, and occasionally writing films and television series. His notable works include Cocoon (1985), Willow (1988), Backdraft (1991), Apollo 13 (1995), How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000), A Beautiful Mind (2001), Cinderella Man (2005), The Da Vinci Code (2006), Frost/Nixon (2008), Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018), and the documentary Pavarotti (2019). For A Beautiful Mind, he received the Academy Award for Best Director and the Academy Award for Best Picture, and he was nominated again for Frost/Nixon.
In recognition of his contributions, Howard received the National Medal
