Tanny Tien-Ni
Biography
Tanny Tien-Ni (Chinese: 恬妮) is a prominent Taiwanese actress born in Shanghai in 1948 and raised in Taiwan. She began her artistic journey studying Beijing Opera and transitioned into the entertainment industry in 1967 after winning a local beauty pageant, earning the title of 'Sweater Princess.' Tanny quickly made a name for herself on Taiwanese television before making her film debut in "Sword of Endurance."
In 1972, she signed with the renowned Shaw Brothers Studio, where her unique charm caught the eye of director Li Han-Hsiang. He cast her in the film "Illicit Desire" in 1973, which became a box office hit and paved the way for her to star in several other erotic films directed by Li. Tanny's work during this period solidified her status as a leading actress in the genre.
Beyond her cinematic achievements, Tanny married fellow actor Yueh Hua, a notable figure in classic wuxia films, in 1975. Her talent in the film industry also runs in the family; her younger sister, Tien Niu, became a prominent star at Shaw Brothers in the 1970s. Tanny Tien-Ni's contributions to Taiwanese cinema have left an indelible mark, showcasing her versatility and enduring appeal as an actress.
