Biography

Walter Sande (July 9, 1906 - November 22, 1971) was a distinguished American actor best known for his memorable film roles, including Paul Revere in Disney’s "Johnny Tremain." Born in Denver, Colorado, Sande developed a passion for music at a young age and eventually formed his own band during his college years. His musical talents led him to become a musical director for the 20th Century-Fox theater chain, which marked the beginning of his acting career in 1937.

Initially appearing in uncredited roles, Sande made a mark in serial cliffhangers such as "The Green Hornet Strikes Again!" and "Sky Raiders." His first significant role came in "The Iron Claw," where he played Jack "Flash" Strong, a comic sidekick. He later garnered acclaim as Red Pennington, the entertaining sidekick to Don Winslow in the Navy series, reprising the role in the sequel, "Don Winslow of the Coast Guard."

Throughout his career, Sande appeared in numerous films, including classics like "To Have and Have Not," "The Blue Dahlia," and "Bad Day at Black Rock." He was also a familiar presence in sci-fi films such as "Red Planet Mars" and "The War of the Worlds." On television, he became a staple in westerns and crime dramas of the 1950s and 1960s, notably as Captain Horatio Bullwinkle in "The Adventures of Tugboat Annie." Walter Sande passed away from a heart attack in 1971 at the age of 65 in Chicago, Illinois.
