Biography
Yao, born Thomas Pang, is a talented Malaysian actor with Chinese and Filipino heritage. He graduated in 2015 from the prestigious Lasalle College of the Arts, quickly establishing himself as a significant figure in Singapore's vibrant theatre and film community. His exceptional performances earned him three nominations for Best Actor at The Straits Times Life Theatre Awards, culminating in a win in 2018 for his role in the acclaimed play *Hand To God*, produced by the Singapore Repertory Theatre.
In pursuit of further artistic growth, Yao relocated to the United States, where he earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in 2023 from the David Geffen School of Drama at Yale University in Connecticut. This academic achievement has paved the way for his burgeoning career in the film industry.
Yao is perhaps best recognized for his compelling portrayal of Bo Chow in the highly anticipated 2025 film *Sinners*, directed by the renowned Ryan Coogler. His transition from stage to screen has showcased his versatility and commitment to his craft, positioning him as a rising star in contemporary cinema. Now residing in New York, Yao continues to build on his impressive resume, contributing significantly to the arts while celebrating his multicultural background.
