Kim Chang-wan

Biography

Kim Chang-wan is a multifaceted South Korean talent renowned for his contributions as a rock singer, composer, musician, actor, TV host, radio DJ, writer, and poet. Together with his younger brothers, Kim Chang Hoon and Kim Chang Ik, he began crafting music as teenagers and, during their university years, formed the band "Mui."

In 1975, after graduating from Seoul National University, they transitioned to a professional career, renaming the group Sanulrim, which translates to "Mountain Echo." With their unique blend of psychedelic rock and hard rock—akin to the sound of the Sex Pistols—they brought a fresh energy to the Korean music scene, which had been severely impacted by the arrests of several prominent musicians for marijuana possession in the 1970s.

The band celebrated its 30th anniversary with a concert in 2007 and was gearing up for their 14th album when tragedy struck. Drummer Kim Chang Ik lost his life in a traffic accident in Vancouver, Canada, on January 29, 2008, leading to the disbandment of Sanulrim.

In addition to his music career, Kim has ventured into acting, appearing in films such as *Blades of Blood*, *Antique Bakery*, *Shinsukki Blues*, *Windstruck*, and *My Love Ssagajy*, along with approximately 30 television series. Kim Chang-wan has also showcased his versatility in stage plays, hosted various variety shows and radio programs, and authored several books, including poetry collections.
