Leslie Phillips
Biography
Leslie Samuel Phillips CBE (April 20, 1924 – November 7, 2022) was a renowned English actor, director, producer, and author whose career spanned several decades. He rose to fame in the 1950s, charming audiences with his portrayal of suave, upper-class characters, famously known for his catchphrases "Ding dong" and "Hello." Phillips was a familiar face in the beloved Carry On and Doctor in the House film franchises, and he gained further popularity through his role in the long-running BBC radio comedy series, The Navy Lark.
As his career evolved, Phillips began to embrace more serious roles, earning critical acclaim for his performance in Venus (2006), which garnered him a BAFTA nomination alongside the esteemed Peter O'Toole. In addition to his on-screen work, he lent his voice to the Sorting Hat in several films of the iconic Harry Potter series, becoming a cherished part of the franchise.
