Biography

Henry Burk Jones (August 1, 1912 – May 17, 1999) was a prominent American actor celebrated for his work across stage, film, and television.

Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was the child of Helen (née Burk) and John Francis Xavier Jones, and the grandson of Pennsylvania Representative Henry Burk. His educational journey included attending the Jesuit-influenced Saint Joseph's Preparatory School.

Jones is particularly well-known for portraying handyman Leroy Jessup in the film The Bad Seed (1956), a character he first brought to life on Broadway. His theatrical achievements also encompass roles in productions such as My Sister Eileen, Hamlet, The Time of Your Life, They Knew What They Wanted, The Solid Gold Cadillac, and Sunrise at Campobello, the latter of which earned him a Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Play, as well as an Outer Critics Circle Award for Performance in a Drama.

Over his career, Jones amassed a remarkable portfolio, featuring appearances in more than 180 films and television series. Noteworthy films include The Girl Can't Help It, 3:10 to Yuma, Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?, Vertigo, Cash McCall, The Bramble Bush, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Dirty Dingus Magee, Support Your Local Gunfighter, and Arachnophobia.

On the small screen, his credits include series such as Appointment with Adventure, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, The Eleventh Hour, Channing, Phyllis, Night Gallery, Emergency!, Gunsmoke, The Twilight Zone, and The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show. He also portrayed Dr. Smith's cousin in the 1966 episode "Curse Of Cousin Smith" from Lost In Space and played R.J. Hoferkamp in the 1968 TV movie Something for a Lonely Man.
