Larry Hagman
Biography
Larry Martin Hagman (September 21, 1931 – November 23, 2012) was a prominent American actor, director, and producer, renowned for his iconic roles in film and television. He gained fame as the cunning oil magnate J. R. Ewing in the hit primetime soap opera Dallas, which aired from 1978 to 1991, and as the hapless astronaut Major Anthony Nelson in the beloved sitcom I Dream of Jeannie, running from 1965 to 1970.
Born in Fort Worth, Texas, Hagman was the son of actress Mary Martin. Following his parents' divorce, he spent his formative years with his grandmother while his mother pursued her acting career. At the age of 16, he began his own journey in acting, participating in local theater productions and commercials. By the early 1950s, he was making his mark on Broadway and appearing in various television shows, including a supporting role in the 1964 film Fail-Safe.
Hagman's portrayal of Major Nelson in I Dream of Jeannie earned him two Golden Globe Awards, solidifying his status in the entertainment industry. After leaving the show in 1970, he found even greater success with Dallas, where his character became a cultural phenomenon, earning him four Emmy Awards during his tenure until the series concluded in 1991.
In 1995, he faced a significant health challenge with a liver transplant but made a comeback to his iconic role in a 2012 revival of Dallas. Sadly, Hagman passed away later that year due to complications from leukemia, leaving behind a lasting legacy in television history.
