Biography
Hwang Jang-Lee, born on December 21, 1944, is a prominent Korean martial artist and actor. He gained significant recognition for his memorable performances in classic martial arts films, particularly as Sheng Kuan in the 1978 hit "Snake in the Eagle's Shadow" and as Wong Chin in the 1981 movie "Hitman in the Hand of Buddha." His name is sometimes spelled as Wong Cheng Lee or Wong Cheng Li, reflecting its Cantonese-Chinese variations. Hwang is affectionately known as the "Silver Fox," a nod to his iconic movie character, and also referred to as "Thunderleg" or "Thunderfoot," titles earned from his role in the beloved 1978 film "Drunken Master."
Originally from Korea, Hwang relocated with his family to Osaka, Japan, when he was very young. He eventually returned to Korea during his teenage years. With a career spanning several decades, Hwang Jang-Lee has made a lasting impact on the martial arts film genre, becoming a celebrated figure in both the Korean and international cinema landscapes.
