Biography
John Houseman, born on September 22, 1902, in Romania, was a British-American actor and film producer whose career spanned several decades. He is perhaps most renowned for his influential partnership with director Orson Welles, starting from their collaboration in the Federal Theatre Project and culminating in the landmark film Citizen Kane. Houseman gained widespread acclaim for his portrayal of Professor Charles Kingsfield in the 1973 film The Paper Chase, a performance that earned him an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He later reprised this iconic role in the television adaptation of the same name.
In addition to his film work, Houseman became a familiar face in popular culture through his memorable commercials for the brokerage firm Smith Barney, where his distinctive Mid-Atlantic English accent captured audiences' attention.
