Biography
Ellen Ware Geer, born on August 29, 1941, is a multi-talented American actress, director, screenwriter, and educator, renowned for her extensive contributions to film and television. Geer's acting journey commenced with a notable role as a nun in Richard Lester's 1968 drama *Petulia*. She continued to build her career with a performance in the 1969 film *The Reivers*, acting alongside her father, the celebrated actor Will Geer. In 1971, she portrayed the character of a deceased wife in *Kotch*, appearing in flashbacks, and became a familiar face on *The Jimmy Stewart Show*, which aired until 1972. Her role in the iconic dark comedy *Harold and Maude* further solidified her presence in Hollywood.
Geer showcased her creative talents in 1974 by writing and starring in two films, *Silence* and *Memory of Us*, both featuring her father. The late 1970s saw her engaged in numerous guest roles and TV movies, including *Babe* (1975) and *The Lindbergh Kidnapping Case* (1976). She later appeared in acclaimed shows like *Star Trek: The Next Generation* and *Charmed*, where she played the future Piper Halliwell in the series finale.
Since 1978, Geer has been the Artistic Director of the Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum, an open-air theater in Topanga Canyon, California. Additionally, she served as a Visiting Associate Professor of acting at UCLA for 12 years, shaping the next generation of performers. Her career reflects a rich tapestry of artistic achievements and dedication to the craft.
