Biography

Ronald Lee Ermey (March 24, 1944 – April 15, 2018) was a distinguished United States Marine Corps drill instructor turned actor, celebrated for his commanding presence both on and off the screen. Ermey's career took off with his iconic role as Gunnery Sergeant Hartman in Stanley Kubrick's acclaimed film *Full Metal Jacket*, where his intense portrayal of a drill instructor left a lasting impression on audiences.

In addition to this breakthrough performance, Ermey showcased his versatility by taking on various authority figures in notable films such as Mayor Tilman in *Mississippi Burning*, Bill Bowerman in *Prefontaine*, and Sheriff Hoyt in the remake of *The Texas Chainsaw Massacre*. He also lent his voice to the character Sarge, the leader of the plastic army men, in the beloved *Toy Story* franchise, further solidifying his status in popular culture.
