Biography
Francesco Clemente Giuseppe Sparanero, widely recognized as Franco Nero, was born on November 23, 1941. This Italian actor, director, and producer gained global fame after his iconic portrayal of the titular character in the 1966 Spaghetti Western, Django. This role not only solidified his status as a cultural icon but also set the stage for an expansive career, encompassing over 200 roles across film and television.
Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Nero became a prominent figure in various popular Italian film genres such as poliziotteschi, gialli, and Spaghetti Westerns. Some of his most notable works include The Bible: In the Beginning... (1966), Camelot (1967), The Day of the Owl (1968), The Mercenary (1968), and the epic Battle of Neretva (1969). His versatility is further showcased in films like Tristana (1970), Compañeros (1970), and Confessions of a Police Captain (1971), extending to later works such as Die Hard 2 (1990) and John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017).
Nero's personal life has been intertwined with that of actress Vanessa Redgrave, whom he met while filming Camelot. The couple married in 2006 and share a son, Carlo Gabriel Nero, who has also pursued a career in acting.
