Szőke Szakáll, widely recognized as S.Z. Sakall, was a Hungarian character actor born on February 2, 1883, and who passed away on February 12, 1955. He carved out a niche for himself in Hollywood, particularly known for his charming roles in a variety of films during the 1940s and 1950s. Some of his notable works include classics like *In the Good Old Summertime*, *Lullaby of Broadway*, *Christmas in Connecticut*, and *Casablanca*, where he portrayed Carl, the head waiter.
Sakall's distinctive appearance, characterized by his chubby cheeks and jovial demeanor, led to him earning the affectionate nickname "Cuddles." In many of his later film credits, he was billed as S.Z. "Cuddles" Sakall, although he reportedly had mixed feelings about this moniker.
