Biography
Macha Méril, born Princess Maria-Magdalena Vladimirovna Gagarina on September 3, 1940, is a distinguished French actress and author with a rich heritage, tracing her lineage to the Russian princely Gagarin family on her father's side and a Ukrainian noble lineage through her mother. Over the course of her career, Méril has made a significant impact in the film industry, featuring in an impressive total of 125 films from 1959 until 2012.
Her filmography showcases collaborations with some of cinema's most influential directors. Méril worked with Jean-Luc Godard on "A Married Woman" (Une femme mariée), Luis Buñuel in the iconic "Belle de Jour," and Rainer Werner Fassbinder in "Chinese Roulette." Notably, she gained widespread recognition for her compelling performances as Helga Ulmann in Dario Argento's horror classic "Deep Red" and in Aldo Lado's chilling thriller "Night Train Murders" (1975).
