Arthur Franz
Biography
Arthur Franz, born on February 29, 1920, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, was an accomplished B-movie actor best remembered for his role as Lieutenant, Junior Grade H. Paynter, Jr. in the classic film The Caine Mutiny. His diverse filmography includes noteworthy appearances in titles such as Roseanna McCoy (1949), Invaders from Mars (1953), Abbott and Costello Meet the Invisible Man (1951), and The Unholy Wife (1957). Notably, he took on the lead role in The Sniper (1952), portraying a tormented killer, which showcased his range as an actor.
Franz also made significant contributions to American television, guest-starring in numerous series, including Crossroads, Perry Mason, The F.B.I., The Mod Squad, Custer, The Virginian, and Rawhide. In 1974, he took on the role of Congressman Charles A. Halleck in the television film The Missiles of October.
His acting passion began in high school, and he later served his country as a B-24 Liberator navigator during World War II. Franz was shot down over Romania and became a prisoner of war, from which he managed to escape.
Arthur Franz's final film appearance was in the 1982 production That Championship Season. He passed away on June 17, 2006, in Oxnard, California, at the age of 86, due to emphysema and heart disease.
