Jack Starrett
Biography
Jack Starrett (November 2, 1936 – March 27, 1989) was a distinguished American actor and director, also known by his birth name, Claude Ennis Starrett, Jr. He gained considerable recognition for his portrayal of Gabby Johnson, a comical take on Gabby Hayes, in the 1974 iconic satire Blazing Saddles. Additionally, Starrett is remembered for his intense performance as the relentless Deputy Galt in the 1982 action film First Blood, as well as for his menacing role as the foreman Swick in The River.
Often cast in roles that highlighted his tough persona, Starrett became a familiar face in the biker film genre, featuring prominently in three notable movies: The Born Losers (1967), which introduced the character Billy Jack, Hells Angels on Wheels (1967), and Angels from Hell (1968). He also starred in Hell's Bloody Devils (1970) and took on directorial duties for Run, Angel, Run (1969) and Nam's Angels (1970). With his distinctive presence and talent, Starrett left an indelible mark on the film industry, particularly within the action and comedy genres, until his passing in 1989.
