Mort Mills, originally named Mortimer Morris Kaplan, was an American actor born on January 11, 1919, who passed away on June 6, 1993. He made his mark in the entertainment industry with appearances in more than 150 films and television episodes. Mills frequently found himself cast as the local sheriff or the villain in numerous beloved westerns throughout the 1950s and 1960s.

During the years 1957 to 1959, Mills was well-known for his role as Marshal Frank Tallman in the television series Man Without a Gun, where he appeared as a key character. He also held notable recurring parts as Sergeant Ben Landro in the iconic Perry Mason series and as Sheriff Fred Madden in The Big Valley. His career included significant supporting performances in several Alfred Hitchcock classics, including Psycho (1960) and Torn Curtain (1966), as well as in Orson Welles' film Touch of Evil (1958).

Mills' diverse portrayals and contributions to both film and television have left a lasting impression on the western genre and beyond, showcasing his versatility and talent as an actor.
