Rick Moranis

Biography

Frederick Allan Moranis, known as Rick Moranis, was born on April 18, 1953, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He is a multifaceted talent, celebrated as an actor, comedian, musician, producer, and writer.

Moranis first gained prominence in the 1980s as a cast member of the renowned sketch comedy show, Second City Television (SCTV). His comedic flair quickly transitioned to the big screen, where he starred in a series of iconic films. Some of his most notable works include Strange Brew (1983), Streets of Fire (1984), and the blockbuster hits Ghostbusters (1984) and its sequel, Ghostbusters II (1989). He also showcased his musical talents in Little Shop of Horrors (1986) and starred in cult classics like Spaceballs (1987) and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989), along with its sequels in 1992 and 1997. His filmography further includes Parenthood (1989), My Blue Heaven (1990), and The Flintstones (1994).

In 1997, following the death of his wife, Moranis chose to step back from acting to focus on raising his two children, entering a hiatus that lasted over 28 years from live-action films. Despite this, he remained active in voice work for animated films, including Disney's Brother Bear (2003), and continued to release comedy albums and participate in fan conventions.

In 2020, after a 23-year absence from live-action roles, Moranis announced plans to return as Wayne Szalinski in a sequel to Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, titled Shrunk, although the project has since been postponed.
