Olympia Dukakis
Biography
Olympia Dukakis (June 20, 1931 – May 1, 2021) was a renowned American actress whose illustrious career spanned numerous mediums, including over 130 stage performances, more than 60 films, and 50 television series. Although she became well-known for her roles in films, Dukakis began her journey in the theater. Shortly after relocating to New York City, she achieved critical acclaim by winning an Obie Award for Best Actress in 1963 for her outstanding off-Broadway performance in Bertolt Brecht's work, Man Equals Man.
Transitioning into film, Dukakis garnered significant recognition, earning an Academy Award and a Golden Globe for her memorable role in Moonstruck (1987). She also received a Golden Globe nomination for her portrayal in Sinatra (1992) and was nominated for Emmy Awards for her performances in Lucky Day (1991), More Tales of the City (1998), and Joan of Arc (1999). In 2003, she shared her life story in her autobiography, Ask Me Again Tomorrow: A Life in Progress. Additionally, in 2018, a documentary chronicling her life, titled Olympia, was released in theaters across the United States, further cementing her legacy in the entertainment industry.
