Sheila White

Biography

Sheila White is a distinguished English actress known for her work across film, television, and stage. Currently residing in Kingston, Surrey, she is married to former theatre producer Richard M. Mills.

Born in London, Sheila's acting journey commenced at the young age of twelve when she performed in the pantomime Cinderella at the Golders Green Hippodrome, where she shared the stage with Arthur Askey as a member of Terry's Juveniles. This early exposure led to her auditioning for the London production of The Sound of Music at the Palace Theatre, where she portrayed both Brigitta and Louisa for an impressive three-year run. Subsequently, she honed her craft at the Corona Stage School in Hammersmith.

At just sixteen, Sheila began her television career with a role in the popular series Z-Cars, sharing the screen with Malcolm McDowell. She continued to impress audiences with a theatre tour of Counter Crime, followed by a musical tour of The Roar of the Greasepaint – The Smell of the Crowd, alongside notable performers like Norman Wisdom, Elaine Paige, and choreographer Gillian Lynne. Her career-defining moment came when she starred as Eileen in the musical On The Level at the Saville Theatre. The song "Bleep – Bleep," written specifically for her, became a show-stopping sensation, elevating her status in the West End. This success paved the way for her notable role as Bet in the 1968 film musical Oliver!, where she showcased her talent alongside Shani Wallis and Mark Lester in memorable performances of "It's a Fine Life" and "I'd Do Anything."
