Biography
Ronald Alfred Shiner (June 8, 1903 – June 29, 1966) was a renowned British comedian and actor, celebrated for his contributions to film, West End theatre, and music hall performances. Born in London, Shiner's early career was diverse; he worked as a Royal Northwest Mounted Police officer, farmer, greengrocer, milkman, bookie's clerk, soldier, and even as a film extra. His comedic talents first gained widespread recognition during his remarkable run in the hit play *Worm's Eye View*, where he performed over 1,700 times from 1945 to 1947. Shiner later surpassed this achievement with an astounding 2,000 performances in *Seagulls Over Sorrento* between 1950 and 1954.
At the pinnacle of his career, he famously insured his nose for £10,000, humorously attributing his success to "me beak which made 'em larf." Following his retirement, he owned a pub in Blackboys, Sussex, but faced significant health challenges in his later years, eventually moving to Eastbourne. Ronald Shiner passed away in June 1966, leaving behind an estate valued at £30,955. His legacy endures, marked by his infectious humor and memorable contributions to the British entertainment scene.
