On Blackpool's bustling Golden Mile, Jim (Douglass Montgomery), a former scientist turned patent medicine vendor, partners with his ex-soldier friend Dan (Ronald Shiner) to sell hair tonic at the fair. After a confrontation with local thugs over their stall, Jim finds himself drawn to Jane (Hazel Court), a charming vendor of candy floss. Their romance blossoms, but Jim neglects to disclose an important detail—he is still married.
