Biography
Carol Cheng Yu-Ling (Chinese: 鄭裕玲) is a prominent Hong Kong actress known for her extensive work in the entertainment industry. She embarked on her professional journey in the 1970s, featuring in various series produced by Television Broadcasts Limited. Cheng also gained recognition as the host of the Hong Kong adaptation of the popular game show The Weakest Link.
In 1983, she made her film debut alongside the renowned actor Chow Yun-fat, with whom she later developed a romantic relationship. Her career skyrocketed as she became exceptionally prolific, at one point juggling roles in nine films simultaneously, earning her the nickname "Nine Films Cheng." During this peak period, she claimed the title of the highest-paid actress in Hong Kong, surpassing notable peers such as Maggie Cheung, Anita Mui, and Michelle Yeoh.
After a six-year hiatus from the screen, Cheng made a triumphant return in 2000 with her remarkable performance in the sitcom "War of Genders." The show quickly rose to become the highest-rated series on TVB, and her role earned her the Best Actress award at the annual ceremony. Today, she remains the highest-paid female talent at TVB, solidifying her status as a leading figure in Hong Kong's entertainment landscape.
