Biography

Sir Simon Russell Beale CBE, born on January 12, 1961, is a distinguished English actor celebrated for his extensive work across film, television, theatre, and radio. In recognition of his significant contributions to the performing arts, he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace in 2019.

Mr. Beale has dedicated much of his theatrical career to the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre. His remarkable talent has earned him ten Laurence Olivier Award nominations, of which he has won three for his outstanding performances in *Volpone* (1996), *Candide* (2000), and *Uncle Vanya* (2003). On Broadway, he received a Tony Award nomination for Best Actor in a Play for his role as George in Tom Stoppard’s *Jumpers* in 2004, and later won the Tony for Best Actor in a Play for his portrayal of Henry Lehman in *The Lehman Trilogy*.

Beale made his film debut in Sally Potter's *Orlando* (1992) and has since appeared in a variety of films, including *Persuasion* (1995), *Hamlet* (1996), *My Week with Marilyn* (2011), *The Deep Blue Sea* (2011), *Into the Woods* (2014), and *Mary Queen of Scots* (2018). In 2017, he garnered the British Independent Film Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Armando Iannucci's *The Death of Stalin*. He has also featured in notable television productions such as *The Young Visiters* (2003), *Dunkirk* (2004), and BBC adaptations of *Henry IV, Parts I and II* (2012), as well as a role in Showtime's *Penny Dreadful*. The Independent has hailed him as "the greatest stage actor of his generation."
