Biography

Fritz Feld, originally named Fritz Feilchenfeld, was born on October 15, 1900, in Berlin, Germany. He embarked on his acting journey in 1917, debuting in the silent film *Der Golem und die Tänzerin* (The Golem and the Dancing Girl). He later transitioned to Hollywood, where he became a beloved character actor known for his distinct comedic style and memorable performances.

Feld's notable works include the classic screwball comedy *Bringing Up Baby* (1938), where he portrayed Dr. Lehman, and his appearance alongside the Marx Brothers in *At The Circus* (1939) as the French conductor Jardinet. He was particularly recognized for his unique "pop!" sound, created by slapping his mouth with his palm, a signature move that signified his characters' annoyance or superiority, first showcased in *If You Knew Susie*.

Throughout his career, Feld often played roles such as a maître d' and various eccentric aristocrats, embodying a blend of European charm that captivated audiences. In addition to his film work, he made significant television appearances, including a recurring role as Zumdish, the manager of the Celestial Department Store in *Lost In Space*. He also had a notable role in the film *Hello, Dolly!* (1969) as one of the Harmonia Gardens waiters.

Fritz Feld passed away on November 18, 1993, in Los Angeles, California, leaving behind a legacy of diverse performances that enriched the entertainment industry. He was married to Virginia Christine. His final film appearance came in 1989, marking the end of a remarkable and versatile career.
