Hailing from Portland, Oregon, she grew up on Bainbridge Island, Washington, as the middle child among three sisters, with her older sister Jennifer and younger sister Lindsay. Laura pursued her higher education at Wellesley College, where she majored in Sociology and graduated in 1996. Before embarking on her acting career, she gained valuable experience working as a domestic violence counselor for the NYPD.
