Michael Paul Chan
Biography
Michael Paul Chan, born on June 26, 1950, is a prominent American actor known for his extensive work in television and film. Notable for his role as Judge Lionel Ping in the acclaimed series "Arrested Development," Chan has also graced the small screen in "Robbery Homicide Division" and portrayed Detective Michael Tao in TNT's "The Closer." His diverse range includes voice acting as Jimmy Ho in "The PJ's" and a memorable recurring role as Mr. Chong in "The Wonder Years." Furthermore, he appeared as Dr. Louis Rob in "Mrs. Harris" and participated in the indie film "Americanese."
Chan's film career features a striking scene in the 1993 movie "Falling Down," where he played a convenience store owner who denied Michael Douglas' character a discount on a soda. More recently, he took on the role of bookie "Andy" in the soap opera "The Young and the Restless" and lent his voice to a C.I.A. agent in a 2011 episode of "The Simpsons." His television credits also include an appearance in the crime-comedy series "Bones."
In 1994, Chan portrayed "Roberts" in the "Babylon 5" episode "The War Prayer." His cinematic repertoire spans roles such as the Chinese Premier in "Megiddo: The Omega Code 2" and CIA official Vincent Vy Ngo in "Spy Game." As a third-generation Chinese American hailing from San Francisco, Chan is a founding member of the Asian American Theater Company. He is married and has one child.
