Biography

Patricia Ann Hodge OBE is a distinguished English actress celebrated for her versatile performances across both television and stage. Best known for her memorable portrayals, Hodge gained prominence as Phyllida Erskine-Brown in the beloved series Rumpole of the Bailey (1978–1992) and as the inquisitive Jemima Shore in Jemima Shore Investigates (1983). More recently, she captivated audiences as Penny in the hit sitcom Miranda (2009–2015) and Mrs. Pumphrey in the revival of All Creatures Great and Small (2021–present).

Hodge's theatrical journey began with her West End debut in 1972, followed by a standout role in the 1973 production of Pippin, directed by the legendary Bob Fosse. Throughout her career, she has garnered significant acclaim, receiving two nominations for the Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical and winning the Olivier Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2000 for her performance in Money.

Her film and television repertoire is equally impressive, featuring notable works such as the 1983 film Betrayal, the 1986 adaptation of The Life and Loves of a She-Devil, and the acclaimed TV film Hotel du Lac (1986), which earned her a BAFTA TV Award nomination for Best Actress.
