Marianne Evelyn Gabriel Faithfull (December 29, 1946 - January 30, 2025) was a prominent English singer and actress who rose to fame in the 1960s. She is best remembered for her iconic single "As Tears Go By," which solidified her status as a leading female figure during the British Invasion in the United States.
Faithfull was born in Hampstead, London, and her musical journey began in 1964 when she was discovered by Andrew Loog Oldham at a Rolling Stones party. Her self-titled debut album, released in 1965 alongside "Come My Way," quickly garnered commercial success, paving the way for a series of albums under Decca Records. Between 1966 and 1970, she became widely known not only for her music but also for her high-profile relationship with Mick Jagger, the frontman of the Rolling Stones.
In addition to her musical achievements, Faithfull made a significant impact on cinema with notable performances in films such as I'll Never Forget What's'isname (1967), The Girl on a Motorcycle (1968), and Hamlet (1969).
