Biography

Cynthia Rothrock, born on March 8, 1957, in Wilmington, Delaware, is a prominent figure in the realm of martial arts and film. A highly accomplished martial artist, she possesses black belt rankings in seven different styles and enjoyed a successful competitive career prior to her transition to acting. Her contributions to martial arts earned her a place in the International Sports Hall of Fame in 2014, and in 2016, she was honored with the title of "The Queen of Martial Arts" by the Martial Arts History Museum.

Rothrock began her martial arts journey at the age of 13 and quickly established herself as a formidable competitor, winning multiple championships in karate, kickboxing, and taekwondo. Her skills culminated in her recognition as the World Champion in Forms and Weapons in 1981.

In 1985, Rothrock made her cinematic debut alongside Michelle Yeoh in the successful Hong Kong action film, "Yes, Madam!" This film catapulted her to stardom in Asia, leading to other notable works such as "Millionaires' Express," "Magic Crystal," and "Righting Wrongs," all released in 1986. She later returned to the U.S. to star in films like the "China O'Brien" series, "Lady Dragon," and "Rage and Honor."

In 2024, Rothrock co-wrote, produced, and starred in the crowd-funded martial arts western "Black Creek," which also features an accompanying graphic novel. That same year, Black Belt Magazine recognized her as one of "The Most Influential Women Martial Artists on the Planet." In addition to her film career, Rothrock runs a successful business offering martial arts apparel and accessories while continuing to teach the discipline she loves.
