Eugene Levy
Biography
Eugene Levy CM, born on December 17, 1946, is a celebrated Canadian actor renowned for his extensive work in both Canadian and American film and television. Notably, he is the sole actor to appear in all seven installments of the "American Pie" franchise, portraying the character Noah Levenstein.
Levy's career took off with his role in the Canadian sketch comedy show SCTV, where he entertained audiences from 1976 to 1984. He has been a frequent collaborator with filmmaker Christopher Guest, co-writing and starring in four of Guest's films, starting with "Waiting for Guffman" in 1996.
In 2004, he earned a Grammy Award for Best Song Written for Visual Media for the song "A Mighty Wind," which he co-wrote for the film of the same name. His contributions to the arts were recognized in 2008 when he received the Governor General's Performing Arts Award, Canada's most prestigious accolade in the performing arts. Levy garnered further acclaim with multiple Primetime Emmy nominations, winning the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series in 2020.
On June 30, 2011, he was appointed to the Order of Canada. From 2015 to 2020, he starred as Johnny Rose in the critically acclaimed series "Schitt's Creek," which he co-created with his son, Dan Levy. His daughter, Sarah Levy, plays Twyla Sands, while his brother Fred serves as a producer on the show.
