Biography
Alexander Johan Hjalmar Skarsgård, born on August 25, 1976, in Stockholm, Sweden, is a prominent actor known for his diverse roles. He began his acting journey at the tender age of seven, but stepped away from the spotlight at thirteen. Following his service in the Swedish military, Skarsgård made a return to acting, landing his first American role in the comedy Zoolander. His career took a significant turn in 2008 when he portrayed Marine Brad Colbert in the acclaimed miniseries Generation Kill, but his rise to fame was solidified with his role as the charismatic vampire Eric Northman in HBO's True Blood, which aired from 2008 to 2014.
Skarsgård continued to expand his filmography with notable performances in Melancholia (2011), Battleship (2012), and The Legend of Tarzan (2016). He garnered critical acclaim for his portrayal of an abusive husband in the HBO drama series Big Little Lies (2017–2019), earning several prestigious awards, including a Primetime Emmy and a Golden Globe. Between 2019 and 2022, he featured in a variety of films, including Long Shot (2019), Godzilla vs. Kong (2021), Passing (2021), and The Northman (2022), while also taking on the role of Randall Flagg in the miniseries The Stand (2020–2021).
