Ariane Labed
Biography
Ariane Labed, born on May 8, 1984, is a talented actress and film director who hails from Greece and has made a significant mark in France. She first gained widespread recognition for her role in the film *Attenberg*, directed by Athina Rachel Tsangari, which earned her the prestigious Volpi Cup for Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival.
Ariane's early life was spent in Athens and Germany before she moved to France at the age of 12. She pursued her passion for the performing arts at Provence University, where she completed a Deust in theater, a Bachelor’s in Performing Arts, and a Master’s in Dramaturgy and Scenic Writing. During her studies, she co-founded the Vasistas theatre company with Argyro Chioti and performed with the National Theater of Greece.
Her film career flourished with appearances in various notable projects, including Richard Linklater’s *Before Midnight*, Lucie Borleteau’s *Alice’s Journey*—which garnered her the Best Actress award at the Locarno Festival and a César nomination—Yórgos Lánthimos’s acclaimed film *The Lobster*, and Justin Kurzel’s *Assassin's Creed*, alongside stars like Marion Cotillard and Michael Fassbender. More recently, she starred in the BBC series *Trigonometry*.
In addition to her acting, Ariane made her directorial debut with the short film *OLLA*, which premiered at the Directors' Fortnight at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival. The film received accolades at numerous festivals, including the Louis le Prince International Short Film award at the Leeds Film Festival and three awards at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival in 2020.
