Biography
Regina Rene King, born on January 15, 1971, is a celebrated American actress, director, and producer. Over her illustrious career, she has garnered numerous awards, including an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, and four Primetime Emmy Awards. In 2019, Time magazine recognized her as one of the 100 most influential individuals globally.
King gained fame after her role in the sitcom 227, which aired from 1985 to 1990. She continued to build her career with notable performances in films such as Friday (1995) and the animated series The Boondocks (2005–2014), as well as the crime drama Southland (2009–2013). Her remarkable talent earned her four Primetime Emmy Awards for her work in the anthology series American Crime (2015–2017), the Netflix miniseries Seven Seconds, and the HBO limited series Watchmen (2019). King’s television credits also include roles in The Leftovers (2015–2017) and a guest appearance on The Big Bang Theory (2013–2019).
Her film career features significant roles in Boyz n the Hood (1991), Poetic Justice (1993), and Ray (2004). She received critical praise and an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in If Beale Street Could Talk (2018). More recently, she appeared in the western The Harder They Fall (2021) and starred in the biopic Shirley (2024).
In addition to acting, King has directed episodes for shows like Scandal and This Is Us. Her feature directorial debut, One Night in Miami... (2020), earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Director.
