David Wilmot
Biography
David Wilmot is an acclaimed Irish actor recognized for his exceptional work across stage, screen, and television. His theatrical journey includes notable performances such as "Six Characters in Search of an Author" at the prestigious Abbey Theatre in Dublin, "As You Like It" with the Druid Theatre Company in Galway, and "Juno and the Paycock" in London's West End. In 2001, he debuted the role of Padraic in "The Lieutenant of Inishmore" at The Other Place in Stratford-upon-Avon, later reprising it at the Barbican Center in 2002 and in a 2006 off-Broadway production with the Atlantic Theater Company that eventually moved to Broadway. For his remarkable portrayal, Wilmot earned a Tony Award nomination for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play, as well as nominations for the Drama League Award and the Outer Critics Circle Award. He won the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Lead Actor and the Theatre World Award.
On television, Wilmot is known for his role as Dr. Ed Costello in the popular series "The Clinic," appearing in sixteen episodes and earning a nomination for the Irish Film and Television Award for Best Actor in a TV Drama. His film credits include "Michael Collins" (1996), "I Went Down" (1997), "The Devil's Own" (1997), and "King Arthur" (2004), amongst others. In 2003, he received the Best Supporting Actor award and a nomination for Best New Talent for "Intermission" at the Irish Film and Television Awards.
