Set in Laramie, Wyoming, during the late 19th century, the show emerged during a surge of westerns from Warner Bros., which included hits like Cheyenne and Maverick. Determined to elevate its status, Russell, Brown, and producer Jules Schermer committed to distinguishing Lawman from typical westerns.
