Fireball XL5 transports young viewers to the cosmos, spotlighting the adventures of the eponymous spaceship under the command of Colonel Steve Zodiac, part of the World Space Patrol. Created in 1962 by the innovative duo Gerry and Sylvia Anderson, the show emerged from their production company, APF, with association from ATV for ITC Entertainment. The title was inspired by the catchy sound of Castrol XL motor oil, with the addition of "-5" for flair. Notably, it showcased the Andersons' Supermarionation technique, a unique puppetry style. Airing on NBC from 1963 to 1965, it remains the only Anderson series to feature on a US network.
