David Somers, portrayed by Trevor Howard, transitions from the British Secret Service to a quieter life cataloging butterflies at the estate of Nicholas and Jess Fenton. When a local gamekeeper is murdered, their niece, Sophie Malraux (Jean Simmons), becomes an unwarranted suspect.
