On a moonless night in the early days of WWII, the Italian Royal Navy submarine Cappellini sinks a merchant vessel that is sailing dark. In that tense moment, Commander Salvatore Todaro makes a historic choice: he decides to rescue the 26 Belgian survivors who would otherwise perish in the Atlantic. To accommodate them aboard his submarine, Todaro must brave the surface for three perilous days, exposing himself and his crew to enemy detection and significant danger.
