Raymond Joshua, a young African American poet, finds himself incarcerated in a Washington, D.C. jail for a minor marijuana offense. The harsh environment poses constant threats, but it also becomes a crucible for his growth and self-discovery. Inside, he forges pivotal relationships with a gang leader and Lauren Bell, a writing instructor. Lauren encourages Raymond to harness the transformative power of poetry to confront and transcend the systemic struggles faced by Black men, guiding him toward liberation through creative expression.
