In this film inspired by Raymond Carver's narratives, a variety of interlinked characters' lives intertwine. Doreen Piggot, a waitress, unintentionally hits a young boy with her vehicle. After leaving the scene, the boy falls into a coma. At the hospital, his grandfather reveals his history of infidelities to his son, Howard. Concurrently, a frustrated baker begins to trouble the family when they neglect to collect the boy’s birthday cake, adding another layer of complexity to the unfolding events.
