Nineteen-year-old Bethany Lockwood arrives in Prince Edward Island and quickly becomes the center of a rivalry between Gary Gallant, the self-proclaimed 'King of Pogey Beach,' and Lyle Macdonald, a laid-back pogey bum with a grudge against Gary. After Bethany discovers the thrill of under-the-table work, her ambitious scheme takes a disastrous turn, leading to everyone ending up in pogey jail.
