He supports the spirited Nancy Martingale and her wise grandfather, Ezra, as they prepare for a decisive horse race to settle the feud. The stakes are high, but the Martingale's contender, Greyboy, struggles to perform unless the track is muddy—a problem given the ongoing drought.
