In "Smoke," writer Paul Benjamin narrowly escapes a bus accident thanks to a stranger named Rashid Cole. In a gesture of kindness, Paul invites the homeless Rashid to stay with him temporarily. As Paul grapples with the pain of losing his wife to murder, he finds himself touched by Rashid's journey to find his estranged father. Meanwhile, Auggie Wren, the owner of the smoke shop, learns that a woman he believes could be his daughter is on the verge of giving birth, intertwining their lives in unexpected ways.
