A Kentucky woman finds herself thrust into a fierce labor struggle after her husband, a coal miner, narrowly escapes a deadly cave-in. Meanwhile, her father suffers from the debilitating effects of black lung disease. Fueled by desperation and a desire for justice, she steps onto the picket lines, uniting with fellow miners and their families in a protracted and tumultuous strike.
